Press release accompanied the gift and reads, in part, "Keswick, Virginia, October 14, 2005----The Vietnam Graffiti Project will participate in the Saturday, October 22, 2005 "Make A Difference Day" volunteer program by presenting historic graffiti-filled Vietnam War troopship bunk canvases to museums throughout the country, including the Virginia Historical Society, Richmond, Virginia.
The society will receive the graffiti-marked canvas during a presentation at its facility, located a 428 North Boulevard, Richmond. The canvas is inscribed with "WATERFORD, VA OCT. 10 67" AND "MAY 23, 68 SHORT". The word "short" apparently meant the soldier did not have too much time remaining in service. He expected to be released in May 1968, less than a year after he was transported to Vietnam aboard the General Nelson M. Walker, a troopship recently moored in Virginia's James River Reserve Fleet. The presentation will be made by Vietnam Graffiti Project volunteer Greg Hosaflook of Kents Store, Virginia."
